Pregnancy Conception Calculator

Estimate your baby's conception date using your due date, last menstrual period, or ultrasound scan date. Identify your fertile window and ovulation day for accurate pregnancy dating.

Key Features

  • Three estimation methods: Due Date, Last Period (LMP), and Ultrasound scan
  • Ultrasound method with gestational age at scan input (6–18 weeks)
  • Estimated conception date (single most likely day)
  • 6-day fertile window (5 days before ovulation + ovulation day)
  • LMP method with adjustable cycle length (21, 28, or 35 days)
  • Auto-adjusted ovulation day based on cycle length
  • Due-date-to-conception back-calculation (−266 days)
  • Conception probability by cycle day breakdown
  • Ovulation day display (cycle day number)

About Pregnancy Conception Calculator

When did conception occur? For many parents, this is a meaningful question ("conception anniversary") or medically useful for timing ultrasounds and genetic testing. Our Pregnancy Conception Calculator works backwards from your due date or ultrasound, or forward from your last period, to estimate the likely date of conception and your fertile window.

Method 1: Due Date to Conception (Most Common)

You have your due date from your provider (calculated via ultrasound or LMP). To find conception:

  • Due date: October 15, 2026
  • Subtract 266 days (38 weeks) → Conception around January 22, 2026

Given that ovulation and conception can vary by a few days, the calculator provides a 6-day fertile window range.

Method 2: Last Menstrual Period (LMP) to Conception

With regular 28-day cycles, ovulation occurs around day 14. Conception happens within 12–24 hours of ovulation.

  • LMP date: January 8, 2026
  • Ovulation = January 22, 2026 (day 14)
  • Fertile window = January 19–24, 2026 (5 days before ovulation + ovulation day)
  • Most likely conception date = January 22–23

Cycle length adjusts ovulation day automatically:

  • Short cycle (21 days): Ovulation around day 7 (21 − 14 = 7)
  • Long cycle (35 days): Ovulation around day 21 (35 − 14 = 21)

Method 3: Ultrasound to Conception (Most Accurate)

Early ultrasound (6–18 weeks) provides gestational age within 3–5 days. The calculator back-calculates your LMP equivalent from the scan date and gestational age at scan, then adds 14 days to find the estimated ovulation and conception date. This method is preferred for medical records and is the gold standard for conception dating.

  • Ultrasound scan date: March 10, 2026 at 10 weeks
  • LMP equivalent = March 10 − 70 days = January 29, 2026
  • Estimated conception = January 29 + 14 days = February 12, 2026

The Fertile Window Explained

Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days. The egg survives for only 12–24 hours after ovulation. This means:

  • Fertile window: The 6 days ending on the day of ovulation (5 days before + ovulation day)
  • Highest probability days: 2 days before ovulation (30%) and the day before ovulation (40%)
  • Day of ovulation: 20% chance
  • Day after ovulation: 0% chance (egg already degenerated)

Probability of Conception by Cycle Day (28-day cycle example)

Cycle DayDays from OvulationPregnancy Probability
Day 8−60%
Day 9−58%
Day 10−415%
Day 11−325%
Day 12−230%
Day 13−140% (peak)
Day 140 (ovulation)20%
Day 15+10%

Signs of Ovulation (To Pinpoint Conception)

  • Cervical mucus: Clear, slippery, egg-white consistency (estrogen surge)
  • Basal body temperature: Sustained rise of 0.5–1.0°F after ovulation (progesterone surge)
  • Ovulation pain (Mittelschmerz): Mild cramping on one side
  • LH surge: Detected by OPK strips 24–36 hours before ovulation
  • Breast tenderness: Progesterone rise after ovulation

Due Date and Conception in ART (IVF, IUI, Donor Eggs)

Assisted reproductive technology requires precise dating:

  • IUI: Conception = insemination date (sperm placed directly)
  • IVF Day 3 transfer: Conception = transfer date minus 3 days
  • IVF Day 5 (blastocyst) transfer: Conception = transfer date minus 5 days
  • Donor eggs (frozen embryo): Conception = transfer date minus days of embryo development
  • Egg donation (fresh): Conception = retrieval date minus 14 days (or as clinic specifies)

Conception and Pregnancy Dating Discrepancies

If your due date based on LMP doesn't match your ultrasound, conception might not align with standard 14-day ovulation. Causes include late ovulation, early ovulation, implantation bleeding mistaken for LMP, or irregular cycles. Your provider uses early ultrasound (8–12 weeks) to establish the official due date — use that for the most accurate conception estimate.

FAQ: Pregnancy Conception Calculator

Which method is most accurate?

Ultrasound is the most accurate (±3 days), especially when performed in the first trimester (8–12 weeks). Due date back-calculation and LMP forward-calculation are accurate to ±2 days for regular 28-day cycles.

Can I conceive outside my fertile window?

No. The 6-day fertile window is absolute. Sperm cannot survive longer than 5 days, and the egg cannot survive longer than 24 hours. Conception outside this window is biologically impossible.

What if my cycles aren't 28 days?

Select your cycle length in the LMP method and the ovulation day adjusts automatically (formula: cycle length − 14). For highly variable cycles, use the ultrasound method or track with ovulation predictor kits (OPKs).

I know my conception date from IVF. Can I calculate my due date from that?

Yes — conception date + 266 days = due date. For Day 5 blastocyst transfer, due date = transfer date + 261 days.

Pregnancy Conception Calculator is optimized for fast browser-based use, so you can test multiple scenarios in seconds.

Formula & Logic

  • 01From Due Date: Conception date = Due Date − 266 days (38 weeks).
  • 02From LMP: Ovulation day = Cycle Length − 14. Conception = LMP + ovulation day.
  • 03From Ultrasound: LMP equivalent = Scan Date − (gestational weeks × 7). Conception = LMP equivalent + 14 days.
  • 04Fertile window start = conception date − 5 days. Fertile window end = conception date + 1 day (6 total days).
  • 05IVF Day 5 blastocyst: Conception = Transfer Date − 5 days.
  • 06IVF Day 3 embryo: Conception = Transfer Date − 3 days.

Practical Examples

  • 01Baseline check: Use realistic inputs in Pregnancy Conception Calculator to generate a first-pass estimate.
